Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame on Monday 20th March 2017 held talks with the Holy Father, Pope Francis, at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. President Kagame and the Holy Father discussed several aspects of the relationship between Rwanda and the Holy See. The President commended the Church’s contributions to Rwanda’s socio-economic development, particularly in the education and health sectors. Also discussed was the Church’s role in the most tragic chapters of Rwanda’s past, leading up to the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.
